Privacy Policy FAQ

We would like our users to understand how the data you provide us will be used. To help you understand our privacy policy better, we have answered a few key questions below. You can read the full policy here.

Q: What is Personally Identifiable Information?

A: Personally Identifiable Information is data that can be used to uniquely identify an individual. In our case, it is a combination of the details you provide us when you create an account and the data we collect from work created on or submitted to our website.

For teachers, this includes your first and last name, email address, school name, grade(s) and subject matter taught, materials entered into our system, and the first and last names and email addresses of your students who will use Bakpax.

For students, this includes your first and last name, email address, and any writing on the images submitted to Bakpax.

Q: How long will my information be kept?

A: Personal information which is provided to Bakpax will be kept as long a your Bakpax account remains active. If you request, we can securely delete your personally identifiable information within 30 days.

**Note: Backups containing personal data may take longer to delete.

**Note: We may retain de-identified data that cannot be used to identify an individual for other purposes consistent with our Privacy Policy.

**Note: Prior to any deletion of personally identifiable student information, we may, upon request of the student and with any applicable consent from the parent or legal guardian, transfer the student’s work into a student account

Q: Why am I asked to provide my birthday?

A: Bakpax complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which protects the personal information of people under age 13. For students who are younger than 13, the school must receive consent before the student may use Bakpax. You can read more about COPPA here.

Q: How does Bakpax protect children’s personal information?

A: Bakpax uses industry-standard information security safeguards to protect its infrastructure against risks of loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, or inadvertent or improper disclosure of data. Data is stored in cloud-based environments that use firewalls and other industry-standard protections to prevent access from outside intruders. Data in transit is encrypted, unique account credentials are required and there is limited data access.

Bakpax segregates certain personally identifiable information and other information about your use of the Bakpax Platform into separate databases. Some databases can only be accessed by a limited number of employees.

Bakpax restricts access to personally identifiable information to authorized Bakpax employees, agents or independent contractors who need to know that information in order to process it for us.

**Note: These personnel are subject to strict confidentiality obligations and may be disciplined or terminated if they fail to meet these obligations.

Q: What information does Bakpax collect automatically?

A: Bakpax automatically receives and records some information from your browser. This information is used to monitor how Bakpax works on your device to better tailor the application to your needs. Below are descriptions of the types of methods used to collect data to improve the Bakpax Platform experience for you.

Cookies: Cookies are small data files are sent from a website or application and stored on your device. They allow us to recognize your browser, remember your login information for when you return to our website, and monitor aggregated usage. You can manage cookies and erase or block them if you would like. Information on how to do to this and more about cookies can be found here.

**Note: Blocking cookies may prevent the Bakpax Platform from functioning correctly.

Local Storage: We may use, collect, and store information locally on your device using browser web storage and/or application data caches. The information is used to analyze trends, gather demographic information, understand your engagement with Bakpax, administer the Bakpax Platform, and tailor the Baxpax Platform experience. (e.g. remembering language preference).

Device information: We collect information such as device type, device brand, operating system, hardware version, device settings, file and software names and types, battery and signal strength, and device identifiers.

Server log information: Like most online services, information is recorded even without having an account or logging in. This includes details about how you use our Platform (i.e. activity, frequency, and duration of visits), your IP address, and device event information (i.e. crashes, system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL).

Local information: When you use the Bakpax Platform information such as the geographic location from your IP address may be collected. We will not store, track for an ongoing basis, or share this information without your permission.

**A third party service provider assists us in collecting and understanding the information we collect automatically.

Q: Who can access my information?

A: Assignments submitted by students can be seen by teachers, but not other students. We may make some student data available to their parents/guardians as well.  We restrict access to personally identifiable information to authorized Bakpax employees, agents or independent contractors who need the information in order to process it for us.

**Note: These personnel are subject to strict confidentiality obligations and may be disciplined or terminated if they fail to meet these obligations.

Q: How does Bakpax use the information it collects?

A: Bakpax uses the information as you direct it with the Bakpax Platform features and services. Users retain ownership and control of personally identifiable information provided. No information is shared with third-parties except in the limited circumstances and for specific purposes (see below).

Q: How are third parties involved?

A: Third parties are used to help Bakpax provide its services. Personal identifiable information is only shared in limited circumstances. These scenarios are as explained below:

Service Providers: We work with vendors, service providers, and other partners to help us provide the Service. Minimal amounts of information, including personally identifiable information, may be given to help them perform business functions (i.e. authenticating you as a user, converting handwriting to typed answers to be graded efficiently, maintenance services, sending emails on our behalf, database management services, database hosting, analysis of log data, providing customer support, and security). Third-parties will not have the right to use personally identifiable information beyond what is necessary to assist us and must adhere to our Privacy Policy.

Testimonials: Testimonials which may contain personally identifiable information such as name, photo and/or a video are sometimes posted on our Platform. Consent is required before any personally identifiable information is published publicly. If at any time you would like your personally identifiable information to be removed, please contact us at privacy@bakpax.com.

Analytic Services: We use analytics services, including mobile analytics software, to help us understand how the Bakpax Platform is being used. These services may collect, store, and use information to help us understand how often the Platform is used, the events that occur within the application, usage, performance data, and from where the application was downloaded.

Legal Requirements: Personally identifiable information may be disclosed if we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to comply with the law, such as complying with a subpoena or other legal process. We may also disclose personally identifiable information if we think it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bakpax, our employees, our community, or others, or to prevent violations of our Terms of Service or other agreements.

Change of control: If a portion, or all of, Bakpax or its assets are merged with a third-party, personally identifiable information that was collected from users would be transferred to said party. Our Privacy Policy will continue to apply to your personally identifiable information and your information would only be handled as described in this policy.

**If you give consent to a new policy, then your personal identifiable information can be handled in ways other than those disclosed in our policy

**If you do not consent to a successor company’s new policy, then you may request its deletion from the company

With your consent: Other than the cases above, we will not disclose your personally identifiable information for any purpose unless you consent to it.

De-Identified Data: We may share non-personal identifiable information publicly in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Bakpax Platform and/or to develop and improve our educational products.

**Any de-identified data will not contain any personally identifiable information

Q: Will any of my information be made public?

A: Your information may only be made public under specific circumstances. Such scenarios are described below.

Testimonials: We sometimes post testimonials on our Platform which may contain personally identifiable information such as name, photo and/or a video of the testimonial. Consent is required before any personally identifiable information is published publicly. If at any time you would like your personally identifiable information to be removed, please contact us at privacy@bakpax.com.

**Any de-identified data will not contain any personally identifiable information

Q: Can I delete my account and my information?

A: Yes. If you no longer wish to keep a Bakpax account, we can delete your account and any associated personal information. We may keep some de-identified usage information that cannot be associated with your account.  Be aware that deleting your account is a one-way process. We cannot undelete it! To do this, please contact us at privacy@bakpax.com.

Q: Can I change any of my account information?

A: If you would like to review, correct, update or request that we delete personally identifiable information, then you may email us at support@bakpax.com.

**Note: Parents and eligible students must work directly with their school or district to review or modify information in their educational record with respect to Bakpax.

Q: Is there a “Do Not Track” option for Bakpax?  

A: Bakpax does not track its users over time and across third-party websites and does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals.

Q: Can I use Bakpax if I am not in the United States?

A: Bakpax is operated in the United States and is intended for users who are residents of the United States. If you are not in the United States, it is important to note that any information you provide us is transmitted and processed in the United States. Due to this, the information will be protected subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable laws, which may differ from the laws in your country.

Q: How can I stop getting emails from Bakpax?

A: You may opt out of receiving emails from us by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link found at the bottom of each email, or you may email unsubscribe@bakpax.com.

**Note: If you have opted out of receiving emails from us, we may still send essential communications, such as legal notices or password changes information to you as needed.

Q: Will I be alerted if the Privacy Policy changes?

A: We will post a notice within the product and provide other notifications if the Privacy Policy changes. If we make material changes to our Privacy policy, we will notify users via the email address we have in our records and the changes will become effective when accepted by that contact. Non-material changes will become effective when posted in Bakpax. The “last updated” date at the top of the Policy indicates when the Policy was last revised.
