Why isn't it working to type mathematical expressions in the question section?

Q: Why isn’t it working to type mathematical expressions in the question section?

A: On February 21st, 2019 we released a new question editor. If you created your questions prior to this release, it can only be edited using the old paren style editing method. You will see this notification for questions which were created before the release.

When typing mathematical expressions into the question section with the old paren style, you must type the LaTeX inside of \( \). For example, if you would like to generate

then you must type “What is \( \int_0 ^{2} x ^{2} dx \)?”. The \( \) symbols must be used because the question box is in text mode, not math mode. (A LaTeX help menu can be accessed by clicking on the question mark symbol in the solution textbox).
